English Teacher
Job Summary:
This position involves providing effective day-to-day support to Faculty Managers, enhancing student progression through individual and small group interventions, and maintaining good order in classrooms. The role also contributes to the overall ethos of the school and requires a can-do approach within the faculty.
Main Areas of Responsibility:

Assist in managing resources within the faculty.

Implement structured learning activities and teaching programs for individuals and groups.

Adjust activities to meet student needs and responses.
-
Use specialist skills to support students' learning.
-
Contribute to creating an appropriate learning environment.
-
Monitor and evaluate students' progress and achievements.
-
Provide feedback to students on their progress and development.
-
Promote positive values, attitudes, and behaviour among students.
-
Administer tests, invigilate exams, and undertake marking of students' work.
-
Provide clerical and administrative support to teaching staff.
-
Supervise students during out-of-school hours learning activities and on trips.
-
Create displays and utilise ICT for monitoring and advancing learning.
Cover:
-
Record and report attendance at lessons and extra-curricular activities.
-
Respond to student questions and address immediate problems or emergencies.
-
Report back on student behaviour and issues arising during class.
-
Participate in break time duties and lunchtime duty as directed.
Faculty Specific Responsibilities:

Work with teachers to identify students in need of subject-specific support.
-
Develop materials and strategies to address areas of weakness.

Monitor the progress of students and report on the impact of intervention strategies used.
General Responsibilities:

Undertake general duties and any reasonable tasks as directed.

Participate in training and development activities.
-
Assist with first-aid for students and staff.
-
Comply with policies and procedures, including Child Protection and Health, Safety, and Security.

Essential: Person Specification Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:
-
Successful experience in working with secondary school-age children.
-
Self-confidence to cover classes in the absence of teachers.
-
Excellent ICT practitioner.
-
Practical knowledge of the English curriculum up to year 11.
-
Good standard of education, particularly in numeracy and literacy.
-
Working knowledge of national curriculum and relevant learning programs.

Strong time management, communication, and organisational skills.
-
Ability to work under pressure and pay attention to detail.
Desirable:
-
Qualification at Level 2 or NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants.

Evidence of training in relevant strategies (e.g., literacy).

Previous experience using information management systems.

Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) A*-C, including English and Maths
